The Special Feature Article of SafeWiFi Project 10th Anniversary

To celebrate the 10th Anniversary of SafeWiFi project, a special feature article for SafeWiFi Project was published on 25 May, 2012, in order to raise public awareness on WiFi security and development of WiFi environment in Hong Kong.

The article included the interviews with Dr. Ken Fong, the Convener of SafeWiFi Project and Honorary Chairman of Hong Kong Wireless Technology Industry Association, Mr. Sang Young, the Convener of SafeWiFi Project and Mr. Eric Fan, Event Manager of SafeWiFi Project. In the interviews, they talked about the background, development and effectiveness of SafeWiFi Project, and reviewed the development of WiFi in the 10 years.

Throughout the 10 years, percentage of WiFi hotspots with encryption turned on used by the public was increased from 23% in 2002 to 88% in 2012. Moreover, WiFi hotspots without Service Set Identifier (SSID) secured or hide wre decreased from 43% to 9%. Results showed that the public awareness on safety in utilizing WiFi was greatly increased.

Last but not least, Miss Eliza LEE Man-ching, the Director-General of Communications of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Mr. To Cheung, the Chairman of Hong Kong Wireless Technology Industry Association and Mr. Alan Ho, Secretary & Treasurer of Professional Information Security Association, have given the congratulatory message to SafeWiFi message.
