Report on Wireless LAN War Driving Survey 2003-2006 Hong Kong
Starting from 2003, Hong Kong Wireless Technology Industry Association (WTIA) and Professional Information Security Association (PISA) conducts the Wireless LAN War Driving Survey every year. Results of the survey were presented in the reports. Results of the surveys showed that the public awareness in WiFi security keep improving throughout the years. Below are the brief introductions to the reports.

WiFi started to develop in Hong Kong during 2003. Most of the Access Points (AP) were in B Standard and total number of APs is 474. Among the APs, 69% were not encrypted. |

Report on Wireless LAN War Driving Survey 2004 |
|
In 2004, the number of APs increased to 926, and APs that were not encrypted decreased to 60%. There was improvement in the security level of WiFi in Hong Kong but the public awareness in WiFi security still had a large room for improvement. APs with G Standard were found during the survey, which consist of 8.32%. |

In 2005, the number of APs increased to 1,576, which was increased by 70%. For APs with G Standard, which was 68.15% of the APs found in the survey. In the aspect of information security, APs that were not encrypted decreased to 45.56%, which showed a slight improvement in public awareness in WiFi security. |

Report on Wireless LAN War Driving Survey 2006 |
|
In 2006, the number of APs was increased by 60%, which is 2,492 in total. For APs with G Standard, which was over 80% of the APs found in the survey. In the aspect of information security, APs that were not encrypted decreased to 36.16% and 20.69% of the APs were encrypted with WPA/WPA2, which were a more secure encryption method. The result showed a great improvement in public awareness in WiFi security. |
